World Bank, Climate Change, and Climate Finance

Despite widespread civil society opposition in South Africa and abroad, the World Bank just approved a $3.75 billion loan to help South African utility company Eskom build one of the world’s largest coal plants. Please join us for an update on the Eskom loan and on the role of the World Bank in both causing and responding to climate change. The panel will look specifically at Brazil as a case study and also consider the intersection of the World Bank and international climate negotiations, where the World Bank is vying for a major role in financing adaptation and mitigation efforts in developing countries.
