Ageing Stories: Narrative Constructions of Age and Gender

Narrative constructions of age in history, attitudes on ageing, and representations of age in different modes of story telling and history writing will be the central issues of the conference. While looking at the ways in which Gender Studies have shaped the methods and modes of history writing, these insights will be applied to the category of age.<br> <br> What meanings are attached to age and ageing in the narrative process? In what ways do medical and biological concepts of age merge with those applied to the individual life course? How do physiological and cultural constructs of ageing interact in story telling?<br> <br> Narratology will serve as a reference frame for new perspectives on age, bringing together scholars from Cultural Studies as well as the Life Sciences.<br> <br> Four aspects of narrating age will be addressed in the Sections:<br> I.
